After the announcement of a large-scale military operation by the Turkish Ministry of Defense against the Kurdish workers party (PKK) forces in the mountains of the Kurdistan region, northern Iraq, and the continued shelling operations for several days, cause fear and anxiety among the Yazidis displaced in the camps near the mountains, especially the camps in Zakho district.
On this, the Yazidi IDP “Murad Kheder”, who lives in Berseve camp in Zakho district, told “Ezidi 24” that “several times, Turkish forces target places close to the camp, and this is what causes our fear, especially among children and women.”
He also added, “A few days ago, a place very close to the camp was targeted, and if operations continue we will be forced to leave the camp because of its proximity to the places that Turkish aircraft target.”
In the same context, another displaced person, “Barzan Kalo”, spoke to “Ezidi 24”, saying, “Turkish airstrikes will not stop so easily, because for decades, Turkey has targeted mountains and other areas in the Kurdistan region and northern Iraq in general.”
“Although demanding and appealing to states and international organizations is a legitimate right for people to stop attacks and bombing operations, it is of no use to them” He added.
